The Long Road
For as long as I can recall, I have dreamed of becoming a lawyer. My aunt is the reason I want to be a lawyer. Although I never got to meet her because she was taken from me when I was a little girl, hearing the stories of her beautiful laugh, outgoing personality, and determination in the courtroom made me realize she was the kind of person I wanted to strive to be like, or become. Although I started out with these ambitions solely because I wanted to be just like the beautiful, powerful aunt I had grown up hearing about, as time passed, I realized the more I grew up, the more I loved the career my aunt helped me discover. I was no longer striving to be someone else, but, in fact, I was embracing a career choice. I hope to achieve my career goals of becoming a lawyer then becoming a judge; this career path will allow me to invest in bettering my community and making a small but impactful difference.
When I made the decision for myself to become a lawyer, I had an unstoppable drive to accomplish this task. I wanted to know how I could accomplish my goals. From a young age, I started to develop a path in which I would figure out how to become a lawyer. I researched as much as I could about becoming a lawyer. I talked to many different people as well as job shadowed. I did everything to help me discover my path to be successful in this career. Through this process, I started researching the best courses to take, the best schools to attend, and the best majors and minors to acquire. As I near the end of my high school career, I have finally decided on a plan as I further my education. After I graduate this May, I will attend the University of Missouri during the fall. I will enter my first year of college as a second semester sophomore, which will help me advance to my next destination of schooling. I then will graduate from the University of Missouri in two and a half years, majoring in Communications and Political Science, and minoring in Psychology. Upon graduation, I will then attend the University of Missouri Law School, for three years.
Finally, upon graduation from law school, my dream is to come back to Chillicothe, and practice law in my hometown. This will then lead me to eventually opening my own law firm, and finally ending my career as a judge, which I plan to pursue until retirement. My dreams are big, but with much hard work and dedication, I know I can fulfill my ambitions. I hope to fulfill my aunt’s footsteps and live up to her accomplishments and standards. I hope to reach all the potentials I see in my future. I want to make an impact in my lifetime, by helping people without a voice be heard and the people undeserving be justified for their actions. Even if the impact is minimal, through my ambitions in life I hope to make Chillicothe a safer place. I want to make myself proud, but most of all my aunt proud.
